Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport

EcoMetrix is currently involved in several initiatives in support of the "world's busiest airport's" numerous green initiatives including a water conservation program that has saved over 40 million gals. annually, lighting retrofits that will save up to 50% in energy consumption and GreenSortATL – Hartsfield's recycling and landfill diversion project.

Project Background
  • EcoMetrix team members led Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s internal facilities management group AATC in a Comprehensive Sustainability Program that includes LEED® EB certification.
  • Assisted with major initiatives in Energy Management, Water Conservation and Materials & Resources efficiencies.
  • EcoMetrix is Coordinator and LEED® AP for GreenSortATL initiative and the Airport’s Comprehensive Waste Stream Management Program.
EcoMetrix's Role
  • EcoMetrix is providing a full suite of services to assist its clients to reduce operating expenses, create value for the stake holders, and increase sustainability.
  • EcoMetrix Aviation delivers consulting and execution capabilities that optimize airport operations by maximizing a cost control strategy that leverages organizational structures, labor and contract practices, technology and equipment.
  • Individual initiatives included:
    • New fixtures and plumbing in terminal restrooms, which save almost 7 million gallons of water per month.
    • Water-conserving chiller plants.
    • A water conservation and recovery system, which recaptures more than 145 million gallons of water per year.
    • Energy conservation efforts, resulting in power savings of more than 7 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in only a 10-month period.
Solution Highlights
  • Labor Optimization Plan increased man hour productivity (20%), added accountability and improved equipment maintenance while reducing costs.
  • Comprehensive Energy Management Plan identified approx. $1 million in annual electricity savings prior to any major capital expenditure.
  • "Constant Commissioning" approach to achieving "active" savings on all utilities implements a Key Performance Indicator ("KPI") technology that provides an actionable real-time management tool to drive optimization.
  • Entire program embraced "green" building practices at budget neutral or "shared savings."
