American Recycling of Georgia
EcoMetrix has been retained to manage the expansion and construction of American Recycling of Georgia’s new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). The facility is designed to handle separation of all waste and recyclable material in support of GreenSortATL, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s state-of-the art landfill diversion initiative. The new facility will process an estimated 10,000 tons per month and will serve Metro Atlanta.
Project Background
- EcoMetrix consulted with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and American Recycling of GA to implement a comprehensive waste stream management program.
- American Recycling required a new "dirty MRF" facility to execute the Airport’s "GreenSortATL" recycling program which will process approximately 3,000 tons of material per month off-site with goals of 70% landfill diversion.
- The new facility will have the capacity to process up to 10,000 tons of waste per month, and in addition to the airport will serve municipalities and other building owners throughout Metro Atlanta creating 25 to 50 new "green jobs."
EcoMetrix's Role
- Sourced the opportunity for Solutions Partner American Recycling, assembled a team and devised an innovative technology and business model that won a competition against Waste Management (13 year incumbent), Republic and Oak Leaf. Contracts included Recycling and Disposal.
- Designed and implemented a unique "passive aggressive" collection system that required no additional containers, labor cost(s) or efforts by the patrons.
- Selected environmental engineering firm and provided project management services for the entitlement and permitting phase with local, state and feds.
- Advised American Recycling on site selection and lease negotiation of the Materials Recovery Facility, (MRF).
- Continues to support The Airport on messaging and branding of the GreenSortATL program with goals to reduce disposal costs and promote gain-sharing.
- Currently managing the construction of the new American Recycling MRF, including design and programming assistance, vendor coordination and construction management of the $3.2 million project.
